People around the world are calling out Donald Trump after watching what many are describing as an “insane” move by the President of the United States. The fool-proof argument against him is growing louder by the day, and this week it reached a breaking point.
Trump made yet another jaw-dropping decision as the war in Iran continues to rage on. He posted a blunt, aggressive message targeting the United Kingdom directly, at a moment when the conflict is widely being described as “spiraling out of control.”
The President has been facing fresh criticism from people around the globe for how he’s been handling international relations during this ongoing Middle East crisis. It has already been a brutal stretch for Trump, and just last week, he was publicly accused of “losing his mind” over a series of contradictory statements regarding the war.
This week, Trump turned to Truth Social to call out U.S. allies, and the post was quickly reshared on X on March 31. His words were direct, sharp, and instantly controversial.
“All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT.”
He didn’t stop there. Trump went on to warn that America would no longer act as the world’s protector. He declared that Iran had been “essentially decimated” and that the hard part was already done.
“You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself. The U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil! President DJT.”
The post exploded online almost immediately. Thousands of people weighed in, and the reactions were completely split. While some supporters praised Trump’s bluntness, a large wave of critics called him out in no uncertain terms.
One person wrote: “You started this war, not them. Time to take responsibility.” The message captured what many people around the world were feeling, that the President needs to be accountable for the global fallout.
Another commenter went further, pointing out the contradiction at the heart of Trump’s post. They wrote: “So you created the problem. You repeatedly insulted your own allies. You are now responsible for the Strait of Hormuz being closed, and now you don’t want to do anything anymore, and the rest of the world is supposed to clean up your mess? You can’t be that dumb.”
A third person called the post “the most bizarre statement we think we ever saw coming from the Oval Office.” The sentiment was shared widely, with many users reposting that quote in disbelief.
A fourth commenter went straight to the point, writing: “Your words are simply an attempt to drag us into this war, which was started because of your stupidity. If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be facing this energy crisis and economic crisis, yet you’re here making sarcastic remarks.”
One more response summed up how many critics felt in a single line: “It is closed because of you! This is simply insane. Dumbest president of the U.S. ever.”
Not everyone online agreed, though. Trump’s supporters fired back just as quickly. Many said they appreciated that the President “says it how it is,” without sugarcoating America’s position on the world stage.
One supporter wrote: “Trump is correct. He is realistic and a rational actor in this regard. He teaches everyone the harsh realities of how the international system works.” It was a clear defense of the President’s hardline foreign policy approach.
Another simply echoed the “America First” line that has defined Trump’s political movement: “Go get your own oil! We can’t keep fighting for the rest of the world whilst they sit back and watch.”
A third supporter added: “This is the way. Stop nursing off the U.S. America First!” And a fourth closed with: “God bless America!”
The debate raging online reflects a much bigger divide, one between Americans who see Trump as a strong leader cutting through diplomatic weakness, and those at home and abroad who believe the Iran war is a catastrophic mistake with consequences that will take years to undo. With the Strait of Hormuz still at the center of a global energy crisis, and allies growing increasingly frustrated, the pressure on Trump is not going away anytime soon.
