US President Donald Trump is facing backlash on the internet after sharing a video on his Truth Social account that many described as racist. The clip included images showing former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama depicted as monkeys.

The one-minute video was shared late Thursday on Trump’s Truth Social platform. According to AFP, the clip repeated false allegations that Dominion Voting Systems helped steal the 2020 presidential election. It also included charts and claims questioning President Joe Biden’s victory in Pennsylvania.

At the 59-second mark, an AI-generated image suddenly appeared showing Barack and Michelle Obama ’s face superimposed on a monkey’s body, while the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight played in the background.

The clip was later widely shared and discussed on other social media platforms, where criticism grew quickly. Condemnation came from political leaders and public figures. California Governor Gavin Newsom, through his press office, said, “Disgusting behavior by the President. Every single Republican must denounce this. Now.”

Social media users also reacted strongly. One user wrote on X, “Trump just posted an incredibly racist photo of the Obama’s faces photoshopped on to the body of apes. Every day is a new rock bottom for this ugly pig.”

Another post read, “Donald Trump, the most openly racist President since slavery was abolished, just shared a video of Michelle & Barack Obama as APES. This is what the Republican party is now.”

Others questioned Trump’s supporters and their response to the post. One user added, “Our RACIST President just posted a video which depicts Barack and Michelle Obama as Apes. But I’m sure MAGA will tell us it’s the black people who are the real racist ones and that we need to do seeing about that. When is enough enough? When can you all admit that you voted for a terrible human being?”

Another wrote, “This is overt racism. Full stop. There’s no ‘misinterpretation’ and no excuse. This is who he is, who he’s always been, and why he should never be anywhere near power again. And there’s a reason the tapes from The Apprentice have never been released.”

Some users also pointed out that the post appeared during Black History Month. One comment on X said, “Trump posted a photo with obama as a monkey at the end of the video during black history month wtf.”

As per reports, Donald Trump has not removed the post or issued a public response to the backlash. Barack Obama was the first African-American president of the United States and served two terms from 2009 to 2017.
