The Patriots have punched their ticket to the big game after a thrilling AFC Championship win over the Denver Broncos, marking their 12th Super Bowl appearance — the most in NFL history. They’re chasing their seventh Lombardi Trophy to break the tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the most all-time. This is New England’s first Super Bowl trip since the Tom Brady era, when they defeated the Rams 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII back in 2018.

Patriots’ Surprising Path to the Super Bowl

Few saw this coming. Entering the 2025 season, the Patriots were long shots with +6000 odds to reach the Super Bowl following back-to-back 4-13 campaigns in 2023 and 2024. But everything changed with the hiring of head coach Mike Vrabel, a former Patriots player who won three Super Bowls with the team during his playing days in New England.

Vrabel, fresh off six seasons leading the Tennessee Titans (2018-23), brought a no-nonsense approach that quickly earned respect from his players. His blunt honesty and leadership have been key to the turnaround, earning him a finalist nod for Coach of the Year. Under Vrabel, the Patriots have reclaimed their defensive identity while building around a young, dynamic offense.

At the helm is second-year quarterback Drake Maye, who has emerged as one of the league’s brightest stars. Maye led the NFL in passer rating, completion percentage, and adjusted yards per attempt during the regular season, finishing with the second-best odds to win MVP. At just 23 years old, he’s on track to become the second-youngest quarterback to start a Super Bowl in NFL history.

Maye’s rapid rise owes much to offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who spent two decades in New England coaching alongside Tom Brady. McDaniels has shown Maye classic film of Brady’s execution in the Patriots’ system, helping the young QB elevate his game. As veteran tight end Hunter Henry noted, it’s about learning from the best without trying to imitate — Maye is carving his own path.

The Patriots’ playoff run has been impressive. They took down two of the league’s toughest defenses in the early rounds, beating the Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans before edging out the Broncos in a snowy, hard-fought AFC title game. Depending on the NFC outcome, New England could face another elite defense in the Super Bowl.

NFC Championship: Rams vs. Seahawks

The NFC representative will be decided in Sunday’s championship game between the Rams and Seahawks at Lumen Field in Seattle. The winner advances to face the Patriots in Super Bowl LX.

The Rams, led by veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford — the current MVP favorite and a first-team All-Pro — are aiming for their third Super Bowl title. Stafford, who won Super Bowl LVI with Los Angeles, has been outstanding this season. If the Rams prevail, Super Bowl LX could feature a clash of the two top MVP candidates.

The Seahawks, powered by quarterback Sam Darnold’s strong play and a top-ranked defense, are looking to return to the big game for the first time since Super Bowl XLIX. This matchup promises high stakes and intense rivalry, as the two NFC West teams have split their regular-season series.
