Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was once one of the most loyal Trump allies in all of Washington. She quietly reached out to him through a private text message after her children began receiving serious death threats. What came back was something she says she never expected, and it changed how she sees him forever.
In a new interview with Piers Morgan, Greene described that private exchange in full detail. She said Trump’s response was cold, dismissive, and showed absolutely no compassion for a mother who was genuinely afraid for her children’s lives.
“He basically blamed me. He had no compassion for death threats on my children. He blamed me basically that if my son were to get killed, it would be my fault.”
Greene explained that the death threats began flooding in after Trump publicly called her a “traitor” following her resignation from Congress in November 2025. The word “traitor” was not just political language thrown around online. It followed her into real life and put her family in real danger.
She reached out to Trump because his own words had been used to fuel those threats against her children. She wanted him to understand what his rhetoric had set in motion. His reply, she says, is something she will never forget.
“I don’t know what kind of person basically has no compassion or care to someone’s child being threatened to be killed. It’s just unimaginable really.”
Greene also made clear that this level of coldness was not something she would expect even from her political enemies. She said she did not believe any of her opponents, including Democrats, would ever say something so heartless to her. That comparison alone says everything about where things now stand.
This painful moment is part of a much larger and very public collapse of one of Washington’s most talked-about political relationships. For years, Greene was Trump’s loudest and most visible defender in Congress. She stood beside him at rallies, promoted his agenda with fierce energy, and rarely missed a chance to defend him on camera.
That loyalty is now completely gone. Their falling-out began when Greene pushed hard to release files connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. She signed a discharge petition tied to a bill that would force those documents into the public eye, and Trump was furious about it.
Greene told Morgan that Trump personally called her and pressured her to remove her name from that petition. According to Greene, he warned her directly that “his friends would get hurt” if the Epstein files were released to the public.
It remains unclear exactly which of Trump’s friends he was referring to in that conversation. Epstein was widely known to have cultivated close relationships with many powerful and prominent figures over the years. Trump himself had documented past ties to Epstein, though no evidence has ever linked him to Epstein’s crimes.
That phone call, Greene says, was the very last real conversation she had with Trump before she walked away from her seat in the House. She resigned in November 2025, citing her deep disillusionment with the president and the direction he was taking the MAGA movement.
Trump responded quickly and publicly. He posted on Truth Social after Greene’s resignation: “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown, because of PLUMMETING Poll Numbers, and not wanting to face a Primary Challenger with a strong Trump Endorsement (where she would have no chance of winning!), has decided to call it ‘quits.’”
Greene did not respond with a social media post of her own. Instead, she sat down for a candid, detailed interview and let the full story speak for itself. Every word she shared with Morgan was deliberate, and clearly a long time coming.
In that same interview, Greene spoke critically about Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict. She pointed directly to his alarming statement that “a whole civilization will die tonight,” made as tensions with Iran escalated sharply in early April 2026. She called it “evil” and described it as a sign of “real mental depravity.”
Greene did not stop there. She also criticized a digitally altered image that Trump recently shared on social media, which appeared to show him as Jesus Christ. Greene called it “so blasphemous,” joining a growing wave of condemnation that came even from conservative Christian voices. Trump eventually deleted the post after the backlash grew too loud to ignore.
Her criticism carries a very specific weight because of exactly who she used to be. This is not a liberal commentator or a political opponent speaking. This is a woman who spent years putting her reputation on the line to defend Trump at every turn.
“We’ve watched him turn on literally everyone that were once his either his friends, his allies, or his supporters. And it’s so concerning to me. And I honestly can’t answer why this has happened.”
Greene is far from the only former ally to have broken with Trump in recent months. Relationships with several key MAGA figures have frayed over the Epstein files, the Iran war, and what many now see as an increasingly unpredictable and hostile leadership style. The cracks inside the movement are no longer easy to paper over.
