‘This Is Embarrassing’: Trump humiliates himself begging world leader to restore what he personally demolished — viewers say they’ve never seen anything so pathetic

Donald Trump is leaving his trip to China with a keepsake that will restore a White House fixture he personally demolished. The moment, captured on video and shared widely online, quickly became one of the most mocked scenes of his second term. For many viewers, it was simply pathetic.

The 79-year-old president has made no secret of his love for renovation projects. Since returning to office, he has been leaving his personal mark on the national landmark in ways that have alarmed historians, preservationists, and everyday Americans alike.

He covered interior walls with gold fixtures and custom labels. He paved the West Wing Colonnade walkway with charcoal black granite to create what he called his “Presidential Walk of Fame.” He demolished the East Wing to make room for a work-in-progress ballroom.

Most controversially, Trump removed decades-old flower beds, uprooted historic trees, and paved over the Rose Garden, turning it into what critics called a Mar-a-Lago-inspired outdoor club. For many Americans, the changes left the White House looking barely recognizable.

But during a recent diplomatic visit to Beijing, something shifted. Trump appeared to have a genuine change of heart while walking through the Zhongnanhai gardens alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping. That is when he noticed the roses.

“These are the most beautiful roses anyone’s ever seen. I asked the president, ‘Could you get me some for the Rose Garden?’ And he said yes. I’ve never seen roses so big.”

The request landed like a punchline. Trump, the same man who had personally ordered the Rose Garden paved over, was now begging a foreign leader to help him put flowers back. Social media users were not kind.

US President Donald Trump was struck by the size of the roses during a tour of Zhongnanhai gardens in Beijing, so President Xi Jinping offered to send him some.

Xi Jinping later confirmed to reporters that he had agreed to the request. “I mentioned that I would arrange to send some of our Chinese rose seeds as a gift,” the Chinese president said. The word “seeds” caught people’s attention fast.

One user on IG Threads wrote, “Rose SEEDS! So he won’t live to see them bloom! Another not-so-subtle dig at the ape that paved over the Jackie Kennedy Rose Garden. Well done!” Another added, “How clever of Xi showing how the Chinese treasure their gardens, especially rose gardens.”

Xi also noted during the tour that the imperial garden contains trees over a thousand years old. The contrast with Trump’s own record, specifically the removal of six large trees honoring Presidents Warren G. Harding and Franklin D. Roosevelt, was not lost on viewers.

“And a very old Magnolia tree,” a third user commented, referencing the historic trees Trump had cut down during his White House redesign. “This is humiliating,” said another viewer simply.

Trump has tried on multiple occasions to defend the Rose Garden overhaul. In one interview with Fox News, he blamed women in high heels. “You know, we use it for press conferences, and it doesn’t work because the people fall. Women, with the high heels, it just didn’t work,” he said.

He also admitted that first lady Melania Trump was not impressed with the changes. “I took a little heat from my wife. She said, ‘Darling, what did you do with my grass?’ I said, ‘People get tired of standing in mud.'”

The Beijing moment added a new layer to the ongoing story of Trump and the Rose Garden. He demolished it. He tried to explain it away. He blamed women’s shoes. And then, on foreign soil, he asked another country’s leader to send him flowers to fix what he had broken.

The embarrassment does not stop at the White House gates. Trump also plans to install a 250-foot arc in the nation’s capital, a project that has drawn significant pushback from veterans. He has also begun painting the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool blue, another move that has drawn widespread voter anger.

For critics, the scene in Beijing captured something larger than just a diplomatic misstep. It showed a leader who tears things down without thinking, then looks to others to clean up the mess. And the world, it seems, is paying close attention.
