‘He’s completely lost it’: Trump raged for 24 straight hours against the one republican who refused to break — then Israel quietly dumped millions and he still wouldn’t move

Rep. Thomas Massie has carved out a reputation as the Republican congressman willing to completely break with his own party. He frustrates leadership, defies pressure campaigns, and refuses to budge even when the full weight of Washington comes down on him.

The Kentucky lawmaker has spent years opposing foreign aid packages, interventionist wars, and the pro-Israel lobbying machine. Now, that long-running resistance has detonated into a political war unlike anything seen in a House primary — and it is happening today, on May 19, 2026.

President Donald Trump has straight-up unleashed a 24-hour rage campaign against Massie on Truth Social. At the same time, the congressman is accusing outside billionaires and pro-Israel interest groups of waging a “desperate” effort to quietly remove one of the few Republicans they have been unable to pressure into submission.

The clash has transformed Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District into what could become the most expensive House primary in U.S. history. Tens of millions of dollars have poured into the race as Trump-backed forces attempt to unseat the seven-term congressman before voters close the polls.

Trump allies, conservative influencers, billionaire-funded super PACs, and even Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have joined the effort to defeat Massie. The congressman argues the campaign against him has become a referendum on whether outside political money and foreign policy interests can effectively buy seats in Congress.

“I’m walking to an airplane to rejoin the most expensive congressional race in U.S. history,” Massie said in a recent video posted by Meidas Touch. “It’s turned into a referendum on whether Israel gets to buy seats in Congress. And what they found out is that my seat is really expensive. By the time this is over, they will probably have spent $20 million and come up short.”

Massie also drew a sharp contrast between Israel and other U.S. allies when it comes to election interference. “I’ve never seen Great Britain, Australia, or even Germany play in our elections here in the United States,” he said. “But Israel gets so much from the United States. It’s a one-sided relationship.”

He continued: “They get us to be their proxies in wars they want against their enemies. They get our military assistance. They get our technology. They get our bombs. They get our tax dollars.”

During an appearance on ABC’s “This Week,” Massie expanded on those comments and pointed his finger directly at the donors fueling the race. He named major GOP donors Miriam Adelson and Paul Singer, along with the Republican Jewish Coalition and AIPAC.

“How did this race become the most expensive race in the history of Congress for a primary?” Massie asked. “It’s because three billionaires from outside of Kentucky have funneled millions of dollars in here. They’re trying to buy a seat.”

He did not hold back when asked about the pressure campaign. “That’s where all the money comes from, and it will be a referendum on foreign policy, whether Israel gets to dictate that by bullying members of Congress,” Massie said. “I’m the one they haven’t been able to bully, so they’re putting all the brunt, the force on me.”

Massie also suggested that Trump’s attacks on Truth Social were a sign of real concern inside the president’s political orbit. “That’s why the president is losing sleep and tweeting about this,” the Kentucky congressman said plainly.

Trump spent much of the weekend hammering Massie in post after post. He called the congressman “the worst and most unreliable Republican Congressman in the history of our Country” and escalated the language quickly. “Very disloyal, but Tom Massie, a major Sleazebag, is even worse!” Trump wrote.

In a separate post, Trump pushed voters toward Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL he described as “a successful Kentucky farmer, and American War Hero.” The contrast Trump was drawing was obvious — a decorated military man versus a congressman he views as a traitor to the cause.

Trump did not stop there. He called Massie a “Weak and Pathetic RINO” and “a totally ineffective LOSER who has failed us so badly.” The posts came in rapid succession, painting a picture of a president losing patience with someone who simply will not break.

The attacks arrived just after Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy lost his Republican primary following years of conflict with Trump over his vote to convict the president after the January 6 Capitol attack. Trump openly linked the two Republicans together, celebrating Cassidy’s defeat as a warning to others.

The fight also pulled in Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, who had campaigned alongside Massie in Kentucky. Trump threatened to withdraw his support for her. Boebert responded with calm defiance: “Yes, I saw the President’s post. No, I’m not mad or offended. I knew the risks when I agreed to stand by my friend Thomas Massie. I was, and will be, America First, America Always, and MAGA. Onward.”

Outside voices across the political spectrum weighed in on what the race actually represents. “When the establishment is willing to spend $35M+ and go to these lengths to take one man down, it really makes you wonder why,” one person wrote on X. “Whether you like Massie or not, this election will determine whether or not we as voters actually have a voice anymore.”

I did not see this coming, but my election has become an inflection point for our whole country. Today we make history.

Others online sided with Trump’s push to remove Massie. “I want Massie out. The sooner the better,” one commenter wrote, arguing the congressman spent too much time on issues like the Epstein client list while real legislative work went undone.

Still, many voters saw the outcome as a signal for the entire country. “Massie’s district used to love him and he has always gotten more votes than Trump did, so if they flip on him because of how much money they’ve thrown at this, every single American should be concerned,” one observer warned.

Today’s primary vote is not just about one congressman from Kentucky. It is about whether record-breaking outside spending, presidential rage posts, and foreign policy lobbying dollars can finally move the one Republican who has refused to move. So far, he still hasn’t.
